Have an Impact and Help Create Positive Change

Here at New Path, youth have an opportunity to get involved, have an impact, and help create positive change for themselves as well as others. Adults and youth work together and ensure that youth voice is part of everything we do in a process called youth engagement.

Share your experiences and help build a better mental health system for all

New Path believes young people with mental health challenges should take an active role in shaping their own mental health care; we strive to create opportunities to hear and respond to youth perspectives. Through engagement, youth develop skills that can lead to employment, make connections to resources and people, become empowered and build self-confidence among many other skills. Services that promote and respond to youth perspectives achieve better mental health outcomes, which leads to communities that are more responsive.

Family can also be siblings, grandparents, aunts, uncles and close family friends. Family are the people who are in your child’s corner, caring for and supporting them. There are different ways to get involved with youth opportunities at New Path. Below are a few ways that you can get involved:

Join the Simcoe New Mentality Youth Advisory Committee (YAC). Give Voice. Act. Make Change.

New Path is the host agency for The New Mentality in Simcoe County. The New Mentality is a network of youth-led groups across Ontario who work with partner agencies in their communities to reduce the stigma surrounding youth mental health. Each group has dedicated youth and adult allies who work together on projects throughout the year to promote community awareness and engagement in the conversation about Children’s Mental Health. Our New Mentality Group also serves as a Youth Advisory Committee, forming our name: Simcoe New Mentality Youth Advisory Committee (YAC).

The purpose of the YAC is to amplify youth voice and act on issues that are important to youth, to contribute to the fulfilment of New Path’s mission, vision, and values and to help improve child and youth mental health services in Simcoe County.

No. You can choose to take part in any or all of what is being offered to you. The contact form (below) is used so we have your permission to contact you to tell you about what’s happening at New Path for youth.

No special skills, knowledge or training are required. Youth at New Path come from all different backgrounds, education levels, life experiences, income levels, abilities, and life stages and are at different points of their family’s mental wellness journey. New Path wants to know what has worked well for you, so we can keep doing it and what hasn’t worked so well, so we can use that experience to do things differently. Having the courage to share your story and experience helps others travelling a similar journey feel less shame and alone in their own situation.
